I have a Pioneer ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM (DWX2009 MADE IN THE E.U.). I need a
driver for this device to run under Windows XP. Where do I look?
Pioneer.com is no help.

jaykyu...

There's no indication, *anywhere* on the internet, that
Pioneer ever made anything with the model number DWX2009.
And what is the speed of your player (24X, 40X, etc.)?

Hi, jaykyu!

ATAPI DVD/CD drives don't need any drivers to work. If you can open up
"My Computer" and see the drive listed, the built-in drivers are
active. Looking at your question, I think you need some DVD playing
software, which unfortunately, isn't free. Some may have come with
your drive (look for CDs in the box), but in case they didn't ship
any, I have linked to a few packages you could purchase:

http://www.gocyberlink.com - CyberLink's PowerDVD
http://www.intervideo.com - InterVideo's WinDVD

You could also purchase a Windows XP DVD Playback Add-in, then use
Windows Media Player to play your discs. This solution is cheaper than
a standalone package.

- PowerDVD SE

NOTE: If you are having a problem with the initial detection (as in,
the drive doesn't even show up in "My Computer"), feel free to please
post a request for a clarification, and I can provide you with other
things to check to get the drive working. In any event, you won't need
any drivers for the drive.

Yes, I know there aren't many resources for you - but, due to the DVD
industry, there aren't many software players. I've personally used
both PowerDVD and WinDVD and can recommend them both without
hesitation.

I hope this helps answer your question and gets you enjoying DVDs!

Focused, courteous, clear. And considerate, as well. Many thanks. Will
try the solutions suggested. Sorry, I can't afford a tip right now.
