Elmer E. Bates was an early Cleveland sports writer who was an
original member of the Baseball Writers Association of
America(Cleveland-1908). He was a Cleveland correspondent for the
Sporting Life(as opposed to the Sporting News) as early as 1897. I
need his birth & death details

Yes, Bobbie7. That is exactly what I would like you to do.  I've now
gotten back newspaper obituaries from the public library near
Holgate,OH. Ane the guy you found is indeed my man.  He also went by
the nickname the Little Man.  Or something like that.  So I'm
crediting you because you found so much info, but also because you
were first with it.  You beat Omnivorous by 2 hours with your
information.  You both were probably working on it concurrently but
you got there first.  So I want to credit you.  My questions are
dwindling quickly.  Hope I get more hits before they run out.

Middle Ridge Cemetery, Madison  Township, Lake County Ohio.
Father: John D. Bates (1833-1908)
