I live in Chicago.
Currently I have a Palm Vx with a Minstrel V modem, and I pay
$25/mo for unlimited CDPD 19.2kbps data from Verizon. I also
have a Motorola ST3868W cellphone with unlimited anytime minutes
for $50/mo from US Cellular.
THE ISSUE: I have to carry a bulky organizer (Palm Vx attached
to Minstrel) plus a separate phone, and the Palm is starting to
feel old and sluggish. The AvantGo web browser is very limited.
My somewhat open-ended question to you, the researcher, is as
follows:
What things can I replace in order to either 1) get more "bang
for the buck" for the same monthly service, and/or 2) reduce
the number and/or size of devices I have to carry around.
I saw the new Palm Tungsten T and I like it. I like Palm devices to
fit comfortably in my trouser pocket. All Pocket PC devices I've
seen seem to be either bulky, slow, or fragile. I'm probably biased
because I've been using Palms for 6 years.
The ideal Answer would be if you came up with a phone that would
talk to a Palm Tungsten using Bluetooth, that I could enable for
unlimited data and voice for $75/month or less (plus tax).
Although a one-device answer is acceptable, a two-device solution
is actually somewhat preferrable... I'd rather carry two light-weight
devices in two pockets than a heavier one in one pocket.
My budget for hardware is unlimited (well, not really, but I'm
assuming I can wait until the prices drop to within my actual
budget).
Hotspot is not useful to me, as most of my wireless access is
done from client locations, not Starbucks.
If I replace the Palm Vx with the Tungsten, would I at least
get a better Web Browser, or is AvantGo still the state-of-the-art
on Palm OS? Also, I could not find a Minstrel for Tungsten, does
it exist? |
