I'm seeking travel video(s) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, showing highlights
of the city. This should be relatively current. There are videos of
the entire state of FL available, but they are very limited in their
Ft Lauderdale coverage. Video could be new or used. Printed travel
guides will not be helpful. A video presentation is necessary. I
cannot travel there now and want a video that can be my eyes, so to
speak. Thank you.

A representative of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Convention and
Visitor's Bureau tells me by e-mail that they have a video about the
area and can provide it if you contact them directly.

Fort Lauderdale inspired John D. MacDonald to write about a 6'2" beach
bum/knight/hero named Travis McGee, but it doesn't seem to have
inspired any memorable movies.

Strip-Tease, mentioned by j_philipp-ga above, is probably Demi Moore's
worst movie, and yet -- it may be the best of the movies found through
a search for

    TV "fort lauderdale" location drama
                and
    movie locations "set in" list florida
                and
    keywords linked to author names or book titles.


Having said that, here are the movies:

Staying Afloat
Movie made for television, starring Larry Hagman, Claire Yarlett, and
Gregg Henry.
We filmed this two hour TV movie in and around Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, in August in the sweltering heat and humidity. Hard work, but
lots of fun.

       Empty Copper Sea is the reissue title for the made-for-TV
mystery Travis McGee. Sam Elliot stars as Travis McGee, the "been
there, done that" private eye created by novelist John McDonald.
McGee's assignment this time is personal: he hopes to help clear the

Man-Trap
Soft Touch was the first MacDonald novel to be filmed. Retitled
Man-Trap, the movie starred Jeffrey Hunter, Stella Stevens and David
Janssen, and was released in 1961. It is described in The New York
Times Guide to Movies on TV as "a second-rate melodrama, derived from
a typical, brass-knuckled John D. MacDonald crime yarn that read
better and certainly moved faster" - enough said. Pan Books published
Soft Touch under the title Man-Trap in 1961 ….
