I'm seeking travel video(s) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, showing highlights of the city. This should be relatively current. There are videos of the entire state of FL available, but they are very limited in their Ft Lauderdale coverage. Video could be new or used. Printed travel guides will not be helpful. A video presentation is necessary. I cannot travel there now and want a video that can be my eyes, so to speak. Thank you. |

Hi, Nicko-ga, Fort Lauderdale inspired John D. MacDonald to write about a 6'2" beach bum/knight/hero named Travis McGee, but it doesn't seem to have inspired any memorable movies. Strip-Tease, mentioned by j_philipp-ga above, is probably Demi Moore's worst movie, and yet -- it may be the best of the movies found through a search for TV "fort lauderdale" location drama and movie locations "set in" list florida and keywords linked to author names or book titles. Having said that, here are the movies: Staying Afloat Movie made for television, starring Larry Hagman, Claire Yarlett, and Gregg Henry. We filmed this two hour TV movie in and around Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in August in the sweltering heat and humidity. Hard work, but lots of fun. http://www.dianaedendesigns.com/tv-film.htm Girl Happy (1965) Cast: Elvis Presley, Shelley Fabares, Gary Crosby, Mary Ann Mobley, Harold J Stone, Jackie Coogan Director :Boris Sagal Rusty Wells (Elvis) is hired by a Chicago mobster to go to Fort Lauderdale during spring break as a chaperon to his daughter (Stella Fabares). Look for Jackie Coogan, former child actor and Uncle Fester On TVs The Adams Family. http://www.geocities.com/myelvistribute/films_of_elvis.htm July/August 1964 Elvis shoots his seventeenth motion picture, "Girl Happy", which co-stars Shelley Fabares and former "Miss America", Mary Ann Mobley. This involves some location shooting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. http://sids.com/elvis/1956.htm Where the Boys Are (1960) Four young women (Hart, Mimieux, Prentiss, Francis) sharing a hotel room in Fort Lauderdale during spring break also share a common desire to meet boys. Their experiences vary from finding Ivy League soul mates to being used and abandoned by the frat boys. Camp fun with '50s moralizing. Remade in 1984. http://www.amctv.com/show/detail/0,,3699-1-EST,00.html "Darker Than Amber" (1970) Rod Taylor plays Travis McGee, the boat-bum hero of 21 novels by John D. MacDonald. McGee ... lives in Fort Lauderdale aboard a 52-foot houseboat .... He routinely rescues lovely women, fixes broken hearts and administers therapeutic sex. http://home.earthlink.net/~tomasik/rod/amber.html Empty Copper Sea (1983) Sam Elliott, Gene Evans, Richard Farnsworth Empty Copper Sea is the reissue title for the made-for-TV mystery Travis McGee. Sam Elliot stars as Travis McGee, the "been there, done that" private eye created by novelist John McDonald. McGee's assignment this time is personal: he hopes to help clear the name of his old pal, charter boat skipper Van Harder (Richard Farnsworth). http://entertainment.msn.com/Movies/Movie.aspx?m=27023 The Empty Copper Sea (Lippincourt, U.S., 1978) got the TV pilot-movie treatment in 1983, starring Sam Elliott ( a walrus-moustached McGee!) and Gene Evans (Meyer). http://www.kruse.demon.co.uk/johnd.htm Man-Trap Soft Touch was the first MacDonald novel to be filmed. Retitled Man-Trap, the movie starred Jeffrey Hunter, Stella Stevens and David Janssen, and was released in 1961. It is described in The New York Times Guide to Movies on TV as "a second-rate melodrama, derived from a typical, brass-knuckled John D. MacDonald crime yarn that read better and certainly moved faster" - enough said. Pan Books published Soft Touch under the title Man-Trap in 1961 . http://www.kruse.demon.co.uk/johnd.htm The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything A TV-movie version of The Girl, the Gold Watch and Everything appeared in 1980, starring Robert Hays, Pam Dawber and Maurice Evans. It was well-made, at every level. However, the 1981 sequel, The Girl, the Gold Watch and Dynamite, might well have been a below-par episode of Lost in Space. http://www.kruse.demon.co.uk/johnd.htm Senior Week Synopsis: Spring break for rowdy college seniors in Fort Lauderdale. http://www.hollywood.com/movies/detail/movie/180244 Flight Of The Navigator Starring: Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker, Howard Hesseman ... [Fort Lauderdale Filming Locations] fantasy movie aimed at the family market. Disney. http://www.fast-rewind.com/ Porky's Starring: Dan Monahan, Wyatt Knight, Tony Ganios ... [Fort Lauderdale Filming Locations: school] . raunchy comedy movie that spawned two sequels. http://www.fast-rewind.com/ |
