you canot make iso-butylbenzene by alkylating benzene with isobutyl chloride in the presence of AlCl3. Why not? |

Hi, simonegh-ga: According to my father, an organic chemistry professor emeritus, the isobutyl group donated from isobutyl chloride would rearrange into the straight-chain secondary butyl configuration much faster than the outlined reaction would proceed.
