If this computer was used to access GNN (also known
as Global Network Navigator) then you will probably
have to locate a GNN disk/CD but that might not do
you any good; according to:
http://news.com.com/2100-1033-215393.html?legacy=cnet
"Once before, AOL provided pure Internet access through
a company called Global Network Navigator, better known
as GNN. But when AOL reorganized and went to flat rate
pricing in October 1996, it first folded GNN customers
into its service and then killed the service altogether
less than a month later."
It might be easier to just use another program, such as
Outlook Express as your default email program (this what
is needed to open files of the type 'URL:Mailto Protocol').
If you use Internet Explorer, you can sometimes do the
above by also going to Tools, then Internet Options,
then Programs tab, then click on the down arrow next to
the E-mail: entry and select Outlook Express.
Another (not as easy) way to do this come from:
http://www.netpathway.com/~kramer/ietips.html
"To use another E-mail program in Explorer:
Double click "My Computer".
Click the View drop down menu.
Choose Options/File Types.
Scroll to URL:Mailto Protocol.
Click the Edit button.
Click Open and Edit again.
Under "Application used to perform action" type the
path and program name for your E-mail." |
