Hello there

The first record I can find for the Sonne dates to 1985. The website
I'm going to send you to has full records of all cruises since
including the institute worked for, the scientist in charge, and
assorted overviews of research goals.

An example from a cruise in 2001:

Platform - Sonne - - Cruise #154 - - Period 16.01.2001 - 08.02.2001 -
- Project CARIBFLUX - - Working Area Caribbean Sea
Chief Scientist Halbach, P. ; FUBRU - - Institute FUBRU - - Port of
Departure Pointe a Pitre - - Point of Return Balboa (Panama)

"The main objective was to carry out measurements and water sampling
in the water column and the near -bottom water layer as well as the
study of the local tectonics and the recovery of hard rock and
sediment samples to find out whether in the area of the Lesser
Antilles island are indications of recent to subrecent submarine
hydrothermal activity exist. The work also includes microbial and
zoologic al studies which are important tools to characterize the type
and state of hydrothermalism. The western slope of the Lesser Antilles
was selected as target area since the islands of this voleanic are
have many shallow water thermal springs and hold active volvanoes.
Indications of hydro thermalism were found in the form of hydrothermal
manganese oxide crusts and of chemical anomalies in the water column.
The latter was found predominantley in area 4 at the submarine volcano
"Kickém Jenny".

When you continue on down the page you will find various research
experiments, the results and the scientist conducting them. It would
take pages to copy all of them here. There are hundreds of cruises
involved.

To access all this information, first of all go here:
http://www.bsh.de/Oceanography/DOD/Ships.htm - a page from the German
Oceanographic Data Center

The ship you want has records beginning in 1985 - click on that year.
Scroll down the page to find the Sonne, it is listed right after the
Solea. After you have gleaned the information from there, go back to
the 'year' list and proceed forward through time from there. Some
years do not have a "paragraph" summary as found above but all have
basic objective information, experiments and results.

Search - Google
Terms - voyages of fs sonne, databases of fs sonne, german
oceanographic research

If I may clarify anything before you rate the answer, please ask.

Cheers
