Somewhere out there, someone has rated anything & everything available
in this consumer world (goods &/or services). How do I correctly ask
the question on a search engine to access these ratings on various
topics.
i.e. What are the 'best',........diets, washing machines, multiple
vitimans, holiday destinations, digital cameras, sexual lubricants,
airfares, etc, etc, etc.
I have no idea what the answer is worth but will pay whatever it costs
to get this info. If my indictaed price is too low, please tell me.

Dear searcher3b-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

Since your basic question is “How do I correctly ask the question on a
search engine to access these ratings on various topics?” I will
explain this rather than point you out to all the MANY places where
this can be done.

Keep in mind that searching for information is often a process.
Sometime, it can be compared to walking a mortar shell in on a target.
You keep shooting until you eventually hit the target.

Let’s use the search engine, GOOGLE ://www.google.com (but you can
use whichever one you like as long as it is a good one).

If I want to find a place that will tell me if a product is better
than other similar products, shall we say, televisions, for example,
in the GOOGLE search field I will type:

COMPARE TELEVISION
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=COMPARE+TELEVISION

Alternatively, you can change your search terms to plural, in this
manner:

COMPARE TELEVISIONS
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=COMPARE+TELEVISIONS&btnG=Google+Search

By clicking on the links I have provided you will quickly see that
several product comparison sites (and there are many) have already
appeared. Go to them and see which ones are searchable so you can
modify your search directly on their web page for the specific kinds
of televisions you would like to see comparisons of.

You can also approach it this way:

COMPARE ZENITH TELEVISIONS
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=COMPARE+ZENITH+TELEVISIONS

This hasn’t necessarily eliminated all other brands, but it does let
you know that the ones that appeared actually do use Zenith
televisions when making television comparisons.

To be more specific, you can do this:

COMPARE ZENITH “FLAT PANEL” TELEVISIONS
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=COMPARE+ZENITH+%E2%80%9CFLAT+PANEL%E2%80%9D+TELEVISIONS

This not only returns sites that use Zenith televisions when making
comparisons, but specifically those that use Zenith television that
have flat panel screens. Incidentally, the quotation marks around
“Flat Panel” tells the search engine, “Only show me the links that
have the words “flat” and “panel” next to each other in exactly the
order I have specified”. You can experiment with this in your searches
by using terms like: “Zenith flat panel”, “Zenith Wide Screen”, and so
on, with and without the quotation marks and you will see what I mean.

Now, there are also other search terms that will bring up other types
of comparisons:

COMPARE PRICE TELEVISION

COMPARE SIZE TELEVISION

COMPARE MODEL TELEVISION

COMPARE BRANDS TELEVISION

You can also try to change it up a bit. Remember, HUMANS write web
pages so you are at the mercy of how humans express themselves. There
might be two dozen more places where you can compare prices but they
don’t seem to be showing up when you type COMPARE ZENITH TELEVISIONS.
Why? Because the HUMANS who wrote those web pages saw fit to use the
key words PRICE COMPARISION instead of COMPARE PRICE…making sense now?
These searches then might return two dozen more pages that you never
saw before:

PRICE COMPARISION TELEVISION

SIZE COMPARISION TELEVISION

MODEL COMPARISION TELEVISION

BRANDS COMPARISION TELEVISION

By the same token, you can change TELEVISION to TV, T.V., HDTV,
“PROJECTION SCREEN”, “BIG SCREEN, “WIDE SCREEN” or any other name that
a television might be known by. Interestingly enough, (again, because
of the human element and mentality involved) don’t disount the
possibly of slang. Just to see what would happen I searched using
these terms: COMPARE BOOB TUBES. On the first page of my search
results I found a comparison of Toshiba Televisions that showed me an
$810.07 price difference between models. That’s humans for you.

See what I mean? If you want to find out what other consumers think of
the products they have already bought, you can search this way:

REVIEWS ZENITH TELEVISION

OPINIONS ZENITH TELEVISION

GUIDE ZENITH TELEVISION

RESEARCH ZENITH TELEVISION

OWNERS ZENITH TELEVISION

CUSTOMERS ZENITH TELEVISION

That’s basically it. It’s a matter of putting the right phrase in
front of your item name or description and walking it in until you hit
pay dirt.

That is how a patient web researcher does it.

Below you will find that I have carefully defined my search strategy
for you in the event that you need to search for more information. By
following the same type of searches that I did you may be able to
enhance the research I have provided even further. I hope you find
that that my research exceeds your expectations. If you have any
questions about my research please post a clarification request prior
to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating and your final
comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near
future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Best regards;

I am looking for a searh strategy to access these sites

The search "terms" (i.e, COMPARE ZENITH TELEVISIONS) combined with a
notable search engine (GOOGLE, etc.), and a method of narrowing the
search (as I have provided) so as to allow you to find a specific
target "is" the search strategy. There is no foolproof way of typing
in a magic word or phrase to get EXACTLY what you are looking for
since search engines rely in indices from which they derive the search
results. This is why it is called a "strategy" and not a "solution".
If my answer has not satisfied your question, please feel free to
provide more details abotu your needs.

Further....if you are looking for someone to find some comparision
sites for you, I can provide a few examples, but no single site that I
know of compares "ALL" products sold to the public.

Not sure your price is too low, just how answerable
is your question. Example: Restaurants, I bet for
any city in America there are 10-20 different groups
rating restaurants with all different criteria and different
results as well. And lo and behold, in some cases
the top restaurants are major advertisers for the
magazines in question. That being said, prepare
yourself to question the validity of the ratings and
how they might be used. Quality, much like beauty,
in in the eye of the beholder. Also, to better assist
the researchers, you might want to let them know
exactly what you've tried and want. Again, example:

"I did a search on "Product AND rating AND quality"
and got 14,306 hits" What key words should I use?

I guess I am looking for a 'type' of format where a prodcut or service
is rated or ranked from best to worst.
In your example of Restaurants there may be a number of lists
compilied by a number of different people, associations, groups etc.
Some lists may be short (top 10) otr long (top 100). So for my city
of Vancouver,BC, how would I ask the question on a search engine to
give me accesss to all of those lists.
I am just looking for a search strategy, how to prase the question, to
access these types (kinds)of sites.
Tks yr help. Does this reply go to all of the people who answered my
original query, or just to U?

I believe everyone sees it.
I will put in my two cents, but for exactly what you
are looking for, I will leave it to the pros. This
is how I'd start:
1-Define the geographic boundary, pick a word set: Vancouver, British@Columbia
2-Product or Service: Restaurants or Fast@food
Then finally, toss out a wide net:
3-Ratings, Rated, Lists, Best, Worst
and then run searches for
1 AND 2 AND 3 for all of the 3s
You will have to sort through them. The pros,
the researches, may know of more sophisticated
tools. Look forward to the answer.
