Hi there,

I play Battlefield 1942 quite a bit so I know for sure where you can
find the B-17 Bomber and the submarine in the game. However, one thing
to remember is that both the sub and the bomber only appear in the
multiplayer maps, not in the single player versions. The bomber can be
found in Market Garden, Gazala, Bocage, and El Alamein while the
submarine can be found at the Battle of Midway and Guadalcanal. In
Gazala the bomber is an an unmarked airstrip near the top left corner
of the map where the roads form a triangle, while at Bocage, Market
Gardenm and El Alamein the bomber is at the main allied base. In
Guadalcanal and Midway each team has a submarine that you can spawn
into.

To make things a bit clearer for you I found a great site that has
pictures of each map and where everything can be found. You can find
this great resource at:

Annotated Battlefield 1942 Maps
http://www.acm.org/pubs/tog/editors/erich/1942/maps.html

In their FAQ they also have a question relating to the whereabouts of
the sub and the bomber, specifically:

"3.03 - Where are the submarines/the bombers?

The submarines are on only the Midway and Guadalcanal maps, and only
in multiplayer games. The Allies have a bomber in El Alamein, Gazala
(NW corner), Bocage, and Operation Market Garden"

I hope that helps! If you need any clarification, please feel free to
ask before rating this answer.

Have fun!

Sorry about the typo above! The 4th sentance in the first paragraph
above should read:
"In Gazala the bomber is at an unmarked airstrip near the top left
corner of the map..."
