I worked as a Copy Center Lead for a year and a half at a Staples
Retail Store. I quit, without giving two weeks notice becuase of a
change in management. This is a very good company, with many more
stores in my area, and I would want to work for them again.
However, I have been told that they have a written policy where they
will not re-hire any lead or manager that quit without giving two
weeks. Can anyone confirm this, or the legality of such a rule?

Greetings Nielsengraphicsmedia! I was happy to read in your question
that you consider the Staples company "a very good company" because I
shop there. It's nice to read positive things about a store I
frequent.

To begin my quest for your answer, I searched for a corporate Human
Resources number for Staples employees and finally resorted to phoning
the Staples Customer Service line. I explained your query to the
Customer Service rep, Landra, who gave me the telephone number of a
corporate ofice phone, 877-235-9088. I phoned there and spoke with
the operator, asking to be connected to Human Resources.

The operator connected me to an extension where I spoke with Giselle
(or Gizelle - pronounced "Jizelle") and I explained the nature of my
call and I read her your question in full. She stated that she didn't
think she could answer it and she would try to find someone higher up
who could possibly answer it. She then put me on hold.

After a few moments she returned to state that she could not answer
that question, that you needed to call the office personally (when I
was waiting to be connected to the HR extension, a pre-recorded
message stated something about having the employee's Social Security
Number ready and, because that is private information -and you
shouldn't post it here- I think that maybe why they wouldn't give a
non-employee the information).

Giselle told me that you could contact anyone in HR services and
request the information regarding your query. She then suggested you
phone any Staples store to get the HR number. However, the number I
cited above is how I reached the HR department at corporate so I would
suggest you use my method.

I hope you are able to resolve your situation and return to work for
Staples. Giselle was very gracious and helpful (as helpful as her
position allowed her to be) so I believe you should be able to clear
up the situation by phoning the 877-235-9088 number.
