I have spent much of my child hood and many visits in adulthood in
Natchitoches Parish - lived on part of the old home stead which is
owned by cousins today.. I am a member of the Natchitoches
Genealogical & Historical Society and have splent many hours in their
library - I think their volunteers are second to none. I believe most
of the information on file there has passed through my hands.
Back to George Ervin Monroe. 1850 cencus for Attala Co., MS pg 118
list George E. Monroe age 17 b. AL living with James W. Rice age 26 b.
AL; Emily age 20 B.GA; Tobias age 4 b. MS. [George's loungest son,
Stephen Lafitte's mother in law was a Rice.]
Riley Wilson [later to become his father in law] and family are on pg
115
George Ervin always listed his birth place as AL. but he listed his
fathers birth place in Al. Carolina, TN and GA. The area where these
states come together has been claimed by each state at different times
which may account for the different reports.

Redira --
I went back to the 1840 census indexes for AL, NC, TN, GA, SC. There
are not more than about 30 Monroe families in those 5 states' indexes.
The drawback to the old censuses is that they don't list family
members by name, only the number of a particular age.
There is one George Monroe in McMinn County, TN at that time with a
son the age of George Ervin Monroe. There are 9 people in the
household, including Mill Peters, 79, a Revolutionary War veteran.
Best regards,

There was a George Monroe who was married to an Elizabeth Peters,
daughter
of the William Peters who was a Rev. War soldier located in McMinn
Co., TN
in 1830 and 1840. This George was born in NC 4-14-1782 and died in
McMinn
Co in 1869 and Elizabeth was born in Va in 1786 and d in 1873 in
McMinn
co. Their children were: Jesse, Rosannah, William, Nancy, Margaret
and
George (b 1819). However another interesting thing is the fact
there
were Rices and Killingsworths also in McMinn Co at the same time. The
birthdate of George Jr. doesn't add up with ours, however. I guess we
just see what else might show up. I do know in one census our George
said
something about TN. I don't have it right in front of me so I don't
remember is he said he or his father was born there.
