I would line to know how many TAD (Telephone Answering Devices)
were sold in US only?
This includes all cordless and corded phones that have integrated
answering machines.
The information could be for any of
the years 2000, 2001 and 2002 (not for all)
I am interested in the number of units sold in US only.
I would like to have the source from where you found the answer.

Hello Anti-ga

The NPD Group provides up to date information on Telecom sales by
category.

“CORDLESS PHONES & TELEPHONE ANSWERING DEVICES Cordless phones and
TADs generated 65% of the Telecom revenue in 2002. Cordless was down
13% and TADs were down 1%. Both had sales that were driven by the
new 5.8 GHz phones that provided a new product opportunity and a
reason to promote and close out the older 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz phones
and TADs. Sales of the 5.8GHz cordless phones that started selling in
September represented 4.0% of dollars. 3.0% of the 4th quarter dollars
came from cordless TADs with sales starting in October 2002. Cordless
phones with extra handsets represented 3.1% of units in 2002, up from
0.9% in 2001. 1.9% of the TADs sold had extra handsets but 12% had the
capability to add handsets to create a whole house system. Sales of
multi-line TADs have also increased with three line TADs capturing
5.1% of 2002 dollars.”

Bobbie7-ga,

This is very good information.
Could you please clarify the following issues for me:
1. Is this data for the sales done in US only or for the sales in
whole world?
This first question is very important for me.

2. Does the NPD data include the online stores sales or just the sales
done by retailers like Wall-Mart?

Anti-ga,

I went directly to the NPDTechworld’s website ( http://www.npd.com/ )
and I located the following note:

Note: All data are NPDTechworld’s projected point-of sale panel and
excludes direct sales, Internet, grocery, drug, Wal-Mart and Clubs.
Direct sales and Internet are included in Telecom and Imaging
categories
http://www.npdtechworld.com/tech/trend_article27.pdf

I hope this clears things up.

anti-ga rated this answer:4 out of 5 stars
The answer was good but did not include the sales data from the internet sales.
