said "program can't open it"

Good morning , elbert..

.WPD files are WordPerfect files.  Do you have MS Word?  If so, I can
tell you how to convert it to a MS Word document and you will be able
to open it.

*.wpd is a Wordperfect 6.x file, you can open it with Ms Word or most
other Wordprocessors.
You can also use the freeware AbiWord, this cross platform,
open-source word processor can read and write Microsoft Word, Word
Perfect and many other formats.
