Question ID: 158549
Where are there profiles of airlines, like
the ones the CIA has in its Factbook?
Looking for ones I don't have to pay for.
Specifically Air France, Lufthansa, Alitalia,
JAL and Korean, but interested in all of them.

Items of interest include:
Revenue
History
HQs
Cities served
Recent events
These are just examples of the dozens
of facts a good profile would have.
I know I could go to each site and find
it, but somewhere someone has already
done the work, I have no doubt. I am
also sure there are places I could pay
1000 for a report, but don't want that.

Hello martinjay-ga,

You can request a free trial of the Online Airline Product Database
(OAPD), which provides the data you seek. A sample of that data is
here:

"Airlines: Profile - British Airways"
Air Transport Intelligence
http://www.rati.com/MarketingModule/airlines_sample/airlinesdetails.asp?ID=456

More information on the database is available on these pages:

"Online Airline Product Database: Product Information Pack"
International Air Transport Association
http://www.iata.org/NR/ContentConnector/CS2000/Siteinterface/pdf/air/oapd_information_pack_2002.pdf

"Online Airline Product Database"
Air Transport Intelligence
http://www.rati.com/MarketingModule/oapd_info/ia_free_info.htm

The second of these pages indicates how to request the free trial, as
do these pages:

"Free Trial: Online Request Form"
Air Transport Intelligence
http://www.rati.com/membership/freetrialindex.asp

"Online Airline Product Database"
International Air Transport Association
http://www.iata.org/air/productsandservices/oapd.htm

I hope that this information is helpful.

Searched for aviation, airline, and air transport related publications
and organizations in the Google Directory

Browsed IATA and ATI web sites (among others)

Scott, thanks, and I was aware of stuff
like this. I am looking for somewhere
that someone has the top level stuff
for free, as per my original request.
Thanks though, and the British Air
example was good, but I have to pay
to get the others if I am not mistaken.
Appreciate the work, but will repeat from above.
This HAS to be out there somewhere, and
I will wait for some comments and see if
anyone else has some ideas.

Have you actually signed up for the free trial? If you haven't, I
would suggest that you do, in order to confirm whether or not you can
get this information for free. (You say "I have to pay to get the
others if I am not mistaken"; but a free trial, by definition, must
provide some free information. So there is a possibility that you are
mistaken, unless you have already tried the free trial.) If the free
trial does not permit you to see this data for free, I would be happy
to do more research.

Went through all the sites, and the first one had a nice
example of British AIrways, thanks, but that was the
only one, the rest I had to pay for. Let me check to
see if I can confirm with my client what he wants then
I will raise this from the 5 dollar level. If not, will just
specify a little more what I was looking for. The one
free trial did not give me a free trial but a 'someone
from our sales department will contact you', so I didn't
get too excited about the prospects of that. Will get
back in a day or so. Thanks.

The last two web pages cited in my answer indicated three ways to
request the free trial: an online form, email, or telephone. If you
used either the online form or email, and got back a "someone from our
sales department will contact you", perhaps you should call them and
refer to your form/email request. Maybe then you can get the free
trial.

Thank you for the good rating; I appreciate it.

Didn't get what I wanted, but I had two other sources
research this and they didn't get any further, so maybe
it is not out there for 'free'. Got a good Lufthansa profile
out of your work, easily earning your five bucks. Thanks.
