I use Yahoo Instant Messenger. I have checked not to receive any messeges from anyone not on my "friends" list. Lately, I have gone back to my desk to find absolutely tasteless boxes in the middle of my screen no matter what program I am in. These boxes say Messenger up at the top but they are not regular IM messenger boxes that chat back and forth. They are gross advertisements. I have a screen shot of the last one from something called growlarger.com. I want to send it to Yahoo because there is no way to respond to this box other than click on the links or close it. I do not want to go to the site because it will open the door to more crap. Question: I cannot find any sort of an email for Yahoo to send this to. Do they have any sort of regulation for their IM or do they just throw us out there to be spamed by the worst of the worst? Can you find any sort of Yahoo place that regulates their service to contact by phone or email? My name is Carolyn but when I open my yahoo email it says "hello Walt" I would also like to get this corrected. I can find no email or help to solve this problem. |

Hi! Thanks for the question. This is obviously a violation of the terms of service (TOS) of any type of Yahoo community and could be reported at the following form page for Yahoo (Terms of Service) Member Conduct Page. After filling the boxes, it will immediately email Yahoo and alert them to your complaint. Dont forget to put your email address so they could respond back to you. Yahoo! Abuse Feedback http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/abuse/cgi_abuse You can also issue your complaints here at the Yahoo Privacy Feedback Page. Are you sure they have anything to do with Yahoo at all? The reason I ask is every morning when I wake up and check my computer, I have three or four of those things, boxes with ads that say "Messenger" at the top, and I don't have Yahoo Messenger. I was sort of under the impression that it's related to some function built into Windows, which the Windows people put in thinking it would be useful, but about 2 months ago people figured out how to use it to send spam instead, so maybe Windows will put out a patch soon enabling people to turn that function off... |

Maisie is correct. The pop-ups you are seeing have nothing to do with Yahoo (or MSN) Messanger. Here is an article that explains these pop-ups and how to get rid of them: http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/answerstips/story/0,24330,3374542,00.html |
