I would like to find a web site from which I can either download or
cut and paste into an Excel spreadsheet the following information for
all current NYSE and Nasdaq stocks: (1) Company name, (2) ticker
symbol, (3)current market capitalization, and (4) a brief description of the
primary business of the company.  Since this is a lot of information,
it is important to me to be able to move the data to a spreasheet "in
bulk". I am aware that there are places to get this data one company
at a time, but that would be far too tedious. Thank you for your help.

I found a place where market caps can be downloaded in .zip files but
the latest is Jan 31 2003 (they data all the way back to Oct. 98).

Is this what you need?

I also found all the information you seek, except the brief summary of
each company, of all the Fortune 500 companies ONLY. But this one is
current up to Fri Feb 7 08:30:02 EST 2003.
