might this be J.T.Smith? he concentrated more on engraving and stuff, but he did try his hand at painting too. He was a pupil of constable, and knew other famous painters. If you can provide more information it would help, smith is a very common name. |

thanks frogfantastic-ga. Yes,I think it could be J.T.Smith. I have a small watercolour about 18cm by 11 cm, very delicately drawn and painted, of lake Locano. I think that the artist could easily be a pupil of Constable. Any more ideas? |

if you go to http://collage.nhil.com/ and search for 'john thomas smith' you will get some examples of his work to compare with, including a watercolour or two. I cant find any direct evidence to link him with your painting, but i cant find anyone else who would fit the bill perhaps one of the proper researchers can help more. If you really want to get into this, he wrote several books (e.g. a biography of constable) you could read them for clues. |
