Hi, Wife and I have had an ongoing bet, first one to find the movie
that had the dialog "Can you do that.... can you JUST do that?" wins
the prize. We both remember it from some movie but cant for the life
of us, remember who or what movie it was said in.

Do you have any idea of the approximate date (or at least decade) of
the movie? Was the movie in black and white or in color? Do you know
anything about what happened before or after this line was spoken, or
anything about the plot of the movie? Do you know whether a man or a
woman said this line, and whether it was said to a man or a woman?
Anything that you or your wife can recall might be helpful.

All I know it was in the last 10-12 years, so it is a relatively
recent movie. I thought it was Gena Davis in one of her movies, but I
think I have reviewed them all. At one point I thought I had narrowed
it down to a movie called quick change, but that wasnt it. Seems like
alot of trouble to go through to find this answer, but you have no
idea of what the winner gets :) :)

So I continue my search....

Greetings jefftappan,

irishkale believes the answer is the 1995 movie "Four Rooms" (see
comment below) but since they are not a Google Researcher, they are
unable to post their comment as an answer. But is this the film you
are looking for?

Quentin Tarantino directed the film's last segment ("The Man From
Hollywood"). In it, the character played by Kathy Griffin (Betty)
says the following:

"BETTY: He probably just wants some champagne! You can do that, can't
you? Please just take care of him, the entire staff of the Mon Signor
is begging you!"
above line from the Four Rooms script:
http://blake.prohosting.com/bamzone/4rooms.txt
http://www.godamongdirectors.com/scripts/4rooms.shtml

The above line may just be from the original script. It's very
possible that when the scene was shot, she stated "Can you do that
Ted, can you JUST
do that?" but I currently do not have access to the film to verify the
line.

"Four Rooms" page at imdb.com:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0113101

The movie is available on DVD...:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6305327041

...and on VHS:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/6304078145

Please let us know if this is the film you are looking for. Also, if
you would like the information above posted as an answer, let me know.
Lastly, if possible, can you reveal what the winner (you or your
wife) gets?! Sounds like an interesting bet...

Sorry,

I was away on travel. No, I wish that was the movie, but neither of
us ever saw it. Thanks anyway for all the trying.... if anyone has
any further ideas, let me know.

Thanks Jeff

I have no basis for saying this but I seem to recall Gregory Peck/Cary
Grant saying this.

I have no basis for saying this either but maybe Roman Holiday.

Could be James Stewart It's A Wonderful Life.

I thought perhaps it was His Girl Friday, but I just did a casual
viewing of most of it and was unable to locate that line. Although
it's possible that the line snuck by me.

Sounds familiar, and like Kevin Spacey to me. However, I looked over
scripts from http://www.moviescripts.de/ for "America Beauty", "the
Usual Suspects", and "L.A. Confidential" and didn't see it. Also
checked "Pulp Fiction" and "Casablana", just cause they were there.
How about "Rainman"? (Not on above site.)

Agree you need more info as those words are too common. Can you do
that, can you just do that?

Possibly Kevin Spacey's character in Glengarry Glen Ross(?)

I agree with Leep (cause he agree's with me :-) ). Couldn't find a
Glengary script the other day, but here's one: http://www.uggr.com/ I
don't have time to look through it now.

How about a better quote than the one that can't be found (at least
better if you're in sales):

"A, B, C. 'A' always, 'B' be, 'C' closing.
Always Be Closing."

I know it! That is one of my favorite exchanges from the highly
underated movie "4 rooms." It's at the very end in the segment that
Quentin Tarantino directed. Kathy Griffin (red hair--I see why you
thought Geena Davis) asks Tim Roth to take up some champagne to
Quentin Tarantino's group in the penthouse. He says there's no way
he's going to do it, and she says, "Can you do that Ted, can you JUST
do that?"
