Hello R2-ga,

Thank you for your question.

The quotation “We don't see things as they are; we see them as we
are.” is attributed to Anais Nin, a famous writer who was born in 1903
and died in 1977.

However, this quotation has also been attributed to the Talmud.

"We don't see things as they are; we see them as we are." --Anais Nin
(Also attributed to the Talmud)

Talmud: The most significant collection of the Jewish oral tradition
interpreting the Torah.
http://www.jewfaq.org/defs/talmud.htm

“Awareness is only the first step in the alchemical process. The
Talmud says, "We don't see things as they are, but as we are." If we
believe ourselves, and therefore our souls, to be unlovable, unworthy,
and powerless, then we will experience ourselves to be these things.
The Truth is that each soul is a unique expression of the Divine, a
spark from the flame that is the Creator. Awareness shows us what our
beliefs are and how those beliefs have actually created our reality.
By becoming aware, we can then change our beliefs.”

As someone who is familiar with a lot of the Talmud and especially the
traditional Jewish literature that cites the wisdom of the Talmud, I
can state conclusively that that quote is definitely not from the
Talmud.

It's possible that there's a statement about subjectivity in the
Talmud which someone confused with the Nin quote. But I highly doubt
it. It's more likely that someone who didn't know the attribution just
chose the Talmud as a source of wisdom it might be from. "Y'know, like
Confucius? The Talmud? An old guru on a mountaintop?" After all, who
would know better? :)

I saw it on a sign posted in a police station in Stepaside, at the
