U'm interested in time travel. I was wondering if there was any
evidence, conlusive or otherwise, of actually being able to go back in
time.

I doubt anyone will dare answer 'yes' or 'no' to your question. That
will likley be for "you" to decide based on what claims there may be,
if any. It will also be up to you to decide if the claims have any
merit. Would you like me to provide you with links to those who
believe that time travel is in fact possible?

Yes, thanks. Links would be appreciated

One more question...are you looking for (1) theories about time travel
(e.g. "do physicists think it's possible or impossible) or are you
looking for (2) actual evidence that time travel has already happened,
and there are people among us who traveled through time to get here.

(If it's the first, I can answer it, if the second, I'll have to leave
it to someone braver than me).

Clarification of Question by fache-ga on 09 Feb 2003 16:09 PST
Well, as much as I would love to hear the second option, I'm afraid
I'll have to settle with the first. The more concrete the better of
course!

Dear fache-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

As agreed in the clarification, I will supply with you links
supporting the premise that time travel is possible, without entering
into a discussion resulting in a yes or no answer from me personally.
You will be afforded an opportunity to examine the information I am
directing you to and come to your own conclusion. Having said that,
let us proceed:

A good place to start your research is this:

TIME TRAVEL
http://freespace.virgin.net/steve.preston/Time.html
The people from this site claim to have the mathemamtics of time
travel, and plans (which they will share with you) of how to construct
certain devices needed in order to travel through time. The site also
explains the relativity, chaos and super string theories in laymen’s
terms. You can examine their mathematical equations and read examples
of that they say are taime travel events that have already occurred.

Flying Saucers - Free-Energy - High-Voltage - Hoverboards - Jetpacks -
Lasers - Lightsabers - New-Age Medicine - Psionics - Pyrotechnics -
Space-Age Weapons - Strange Science - Surveillance - Time Travel -
Ufos – Ultrasonics, and offers a newsletter. You can also purchase
plans, research and equipment that they say is helpful if you plan to
travel through time. Obviously, “buyer beware” is the rule here, if
you do manage to go back in time and their device doesn’t seem to be
helping you to find your way back, you’ll have some serious issues I
would imagine, and of course, no real way to address them with the
manufacturer.

fact, according to Albert Einstein's famous equation, E = mc˛ , time
travel is possible, at least in one direction. Going the other way —
back to the past — presents a trickier challenge.”

phenomena, a subject which has not been discussed much outside the

become one of the landmarks in the literature.”

More doable question might be 'give what little we know
today, is there a chance in the future that it could happen?'
Why? Never seen anything on it, Pro or Con, but being a
pragmastist and engineer, I am very skeptical that it will
ever be possible. Theoretically if it will ever be possible
then there are people/beings from the future among us,
since that once the challenge was conquered, people would
do it for scientific reasons, event altering and leisure.
Hope other people respond, curious to hear opinions.

It's absolute rubbish!

I've tried it and it doesn't work.

Time dilation is certainly possible - see Einstein's theory of
relativity. Whether travelling backward in time is possible or not
though is still hotly debated in theoretical physics. Currently just
for time to stand still, you require an infinite amount of energy - so
to travel backwards you'd need more than an infinite amount.

Some say UFOs are evidence of time travellers from the future.

There's the whole "wormhole" time travel theory. It's all very
complicated...

> to travel backwards you'd need more than an infinite amount.

not true. there are occasions where it looks like you could travel
back in time, with a finite amount of energy. These situations usually
involve very massive objects (like black holes).

The simple answer to this question is that travelling forward in time
is easy, you just need to travel fast. Travelling backward in time MAY
be possible, but has not been proven.
