Hello,
When I install graphics driver for my graphic card (Hercules 3D
Prophet 9000PRO) and restart it,my computer (or just LCD monitor,I'm
not sure) went into sleep mode. This problem appeared when I installed
winxp pro.I have tried the latest Hercules and ATI drivers. So I
formated disk and installed winxp pro again. Then I installed INF
Update Utility from Intel site but didn't manage to install Intel
Graphics Driver (chipset driver). When I tried to instal this driver I
got this error:"A software error ccurred. Cannot install Intel
Graphics Driver on current graphics device." Why does it happen.Could
you give me any suggestion.Do I need new bios?
I have Intel 815EP chipset and I'm not sure do I need this INF Update
Utility. And as you can see here
http://downloadfinder2.intel.com/scripts-df/Detail_Desc.asp?agr=N&ProductID=179&DwnldID=4665
I downloaded the right Intel Graphics Driver but exactly this chipset
is not mentioned in Readme and Release Notes files.Could that be
problem?I have Asus CUSL2-C MB and LCD on DVI conector.
Regards and thanks

Hi nikenn,

I checked Intel's support page regarding your chipset. Your problem is
mainly caused by the unnecessary installation of the Intel Chipset
Software Installation Utility on your WinXP. It is clearly specified
on Intel's support page, "Do I Need the Intel® Chipset Software
Installation Utility?" (
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/inf.htm#xp ), that the
utility is not needed under WinXp. This means that the Intel 815
series chipset is fully supported by the WinXP operating system.

"Do I need new bios?"

No you don't. I checked Asus and and Tom's Hardware regarding your
mobo. Your BIOS is fairly new and is very much supported by the WinXP.
What you need is the right driver for your video card. I've located it
for you. You can download it from here by right-clicking on the link
below and choosing the "Save Target As..." option. Please remember
that this driver is ONLY FOR Windows 2000 and XP.

Hercules 3D Prophet 9000
7.81 (Catalyst 3.0) -- Driver size: 6.25 Mb
ftp://ftp.hercules.com/video/exe/RADEONSeries/3DPRS_2KXP_781.exe

What you should do after downloading the file is to uninstall the
chipset utility. Restart after that, and install the video driver that
you downloaded. In case it can't be uninstalled, there are several
ways to get the system back to it's original state of installation.
I'll elaborate on that if you encounter this situation. You also have
the option of doing a clean install by reformatting and reinstalling
WinXP so as to make sure that you'll install the system correctly this
time.

I hope this helps you. Should you have any comments/questions, please
feel free to post your clarification before rating this and I'll
attend to you as soon as possible. Thanks for asking.

Regards,
Feilong
