I am a naturalized U.S. Citizen and intend to file a petition for my
fiancée who is a foreign national. She also has a 4-year old child. My
question is if she is approved and move to the U.S. whether it will
create complications to bring her child later to the U.S. We intend
initially only for her to come to the U.S., to adjust and after
approximately a year to bring the child who meanwhile will live with
her parents.

Thank you,
BB

<There should be no problem in bringing your fiancés daughter to the
U.S at a later date. Under U.S. law you may petition to bring a child
to the U.S. who is related to you. Once you are married the child will
be your stepchild. In addition your future wife also has the right to
petition to bring the child to the U.S. once she has been granted
permanent residence status. As the child is under the age of 21, she
is given priority over other cases. An explanation is given on how to
apply on the US immigration site at
http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/howdoi/child.htm . The procedure
involves filing form I-130 and providing documents to prove your
relationship to the child.

Bring the child immediately under separate petition. The INS is no fun.
