Hello.
"Verizon is one of the largest employers in the United States, serving
over 95 million wireline customers in 34 states."

Apparently, though, Verizon must be counting more than one "customer"
per line because a closer look at the company's data indicates that,
as of December 31, 2002, Verizon had 57,973,842 wirelines. This figure
included: 37,460,235 consumer wirelines, 19,991,859 business wirelines
and 521,748 coin-operated lines.

By comparison, as of December 31, 2002, SBC had a total of 50,823,000
retail wirelines.
That figure included 31,366,000 consumer wirelines and 19,457,000
business wirelines.
Additionally, SBC had 527,000 coin-operated lines.
