There was a candy called something like Multicrunchy in the 1940's.
I understand that it tasted bad. I need a picture of it. Where can I
get one either on the web or elsewhere?

Hello seafa-ga:

I can't find a candy by that name. Do you know what some of the
ingredients were? Do you know if it was available in one specific
region of the country during the '40s? Any details would be
appreciated.

My Uncle had it as a treat for playing football and hated it.
He lived in Salt Lake City Utah
I have no Idea what it was made of. He said that it tasted like corn
surrip and molasses.
Thats all I know about it.

Thanks

Hello seafa-ga:

First, I really don't think the candy was called Multicrunchy or
Multi-Crunchy -- searching under those names proved fruitless. Also,
absolutely nothing helpful came up on the Internet under search terms
"molasses candy Utah 1940s", "1940s crunchy molasses candy," or even
"1940s crunchy candy." But I did find a few possibilities:

I tried both the Vermont Country Store catalogue (famous, among other
things, for its assortment of nostalgic candies thought to be out of
production) and its Online site: www.vermontcountrystore.com. I found
several molasses-based candies, along with photos of these treats:

"Chocolate-Covered Honeycomb Candies" (made with molasses):
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/prdSell.asp?ProdGroupID=14519&flgCookiesEnabled=FALSE

And

molasses-flavored "Puff Candy." This candy looks like a sponge with a
honeycomb interior:
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/prdSell.asp?ProdGroupID=19388&flgCookiesEnabled=FALSE

And

the "Chocolate Charlie Crunch" bar:
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/prdSell.asp?ProdGroupID=24434&DeptID=20436&CatID=22825

The Chocolate Charlie Crunch contains "honeycomb pieces" that, I
imagine, would have a crunchy texture. The thing is, this is listed as
a new product, but it could well be an old recipe that this company
bought. Anyway, it seems similar to what your uncle described.

Because he was from the West, I tried to find an early version of
something like Trail Mix, only with chocolate, but came up empty on
that too.

IF the candy was called Multi-Crunch(y), and it really did taste
awful, then it undoubtedly went off the market years ago. It's also
possible that your uncle, like me, just plain didn't like the taste of
molasses, but enough other people did that the candy survived and was
just marketed under different names over time, in hopes of improving
sales. (Multi-Crunchy just doesn't sound like a brand name from the
'40s, to be honest.) Another possibility is that a candy-maker in Utah
made and sold such candies locally during the 1940s and the item was
sold only regionally.

If one of the items I found at the Vermont Country Store is correct,
I'll re-post this as an answer. If I didn't find what you wanted, I
certainly do hope one of my fellow researchers can help you.

Sincerely,
nancylynn-ga
