Hello.
From the newsgroup alt.horology:
"Subject: Watch in The Recruit
Date: 2003-01-09
The watch is Tag Heuer Formula 1 Kirium..."

See the watch pictured on Tag Heuer's site:

Further description on another Tag Heuer page:
"Analog and digital time display"
"Dial backlighting by pressing the crown"

search strategy: "google groups", watch, recruit
I hope this is the right watch. It seems to match your description of
an "illuminating digital watch." If it's not the one, though, please
use the "request clarification" feature to let me know, and I'll
resume my search. Thanks. |

Here is a discription of the watch that I "think I saw". It was a
fairly brief scene and as I have been looking for a particular watch
for quite some time so I am trusting that my imagination isn't
distorting this discription.
It is a black (or at least dark) watch, like an expensive sports
watch. No analog dial. Face of the watch is completely black. I
believe the digital display is only visible if you hit a button and
then shows only the numbers (it doesn't illuminate the entire face).
It has a countdown/stopwatch feature that can easily be initiated
(probably from pressing a button once). Remember this is a military
type stealth operation so I assume the watch doesn't have reflective
surfaces with screen remaining dark unless activated. But I think we
are going to need to find a manufacturer who claims that it is their
product which is used in the movie. I may be that the display window
was only about half the size of the face of the watch.

TO:juggler-ga, In an attempt to contact you, I may have submitted a
refund request. I don't want a refund. I had not noticed that 5
other researchers selected the same watch as you did. Although I am
clearly in the minority here, I don't think the Tag Heuer Formula 1
Kirium looks any like what I remember. I responded to your request
for more info and hope you will search a bit farther. I will try to
make it worth the time spent. Thanks for your help.

Goosetek:
The Tag Heuer Formula 1 does have hands but its is black until you
press the face. Also, the digital display is only visible if you
press it and then it shows only the numbers (it doesn't illuminate the
entire face). It also has countdown/stopwatch features
These features are briefly illustrated in the video linked on this
page:
http://www.tagheuer.com/watches/detail.lbl?watch=CL111A.BA0700
I believe that this is the correct watch. Nonetheless, I have
requested removal of my answer. Thanks.
