I am having a real problem with Bellsouth DSL and Internet Explorer.

Hi there,

I'm going to post this as a comment since there is no guarantee that
this will solve your problem.

I've experienced this with IE 5 and IE 6, and have had several friends
suffer likewise. We've found only one solution:

Download the latest version of IE. *Don't* install it yet. First,
un-install your current version. Delete any extraneous files
associated with that version of IE. Reboot your computer.

Install the fresh IE file, then check for any service packs or updates
at Microsoft.com. Install those. Reboot your computer again.

We've had about a 60% success with that, but it's not foolproof. It
has come back. I got fed up with the problem and ditched IE entirely
in favor of Mozilla:

Good luck!

You have written that you're having a problem with Internet Explorer,
specifically that you can't follow links from email. But Internet
Explorer doesn't handle email at all. You must be using some other
application for email. Perhaps one of the Microsoft email
applications, Outlook or Outlook Express, but perhaps another vendor's
application. In Internet Explorer, pull down Tools and pick Mail and
News | Read Mail. Another application should open, if it's not already
open, and come to the top. What is it?

IE works in concert with your email application by means of a setting
in Internet Options, in which you instruct the operating system which
email application you want to use. There are two ways into Internet
Options:

 a) In Internet Explorer, pull down Tools and pick Internet Options.
 b) Assuming you're using a 32-bit version of Windows, press Start. If
there is something called Settings, pick it. At this point, you should
see Control Panel, so pick it. Now launch Internet Options.

Once in Internet Options, go to the Programs tab. In the Internet
Programs section, you have the ability to tell Windows which email
application you want to use. Be sure it is pointing to the one you are
using.

If that's already OK, maybe the problem is a setting in your email
application. But without info on what version number of what
application you're using, that will be hard to diagnose.

Regarding the question of my email program, I am using Outlook.
However, this is not an email only problem, it is also a problem
following links on the web, that is why I assume the problem is in IE.
 Thanks!
