I have a laptop and a desktop. They both use Outlook. The desktop gets
2 of every email, where as the laptop does not.

I the laptop has Outlook 6.0.

I just updated the desktop and I think it now has Outlook 6.0 (it had
5.0)

What do I do so that the desktop will only receive one (1) of each
incoming emails?

My PC's use the same server but they connect via separate modems.
The desk top has the Mexican equivalent of DSL and is the only one
connected through that modem and system.

Hi pendleton-ga,

Under Tools, Accounts, make sure the account you're checking only
appears once. They may not have the same name but could contain the
same login info. This is usually the most common explanation. Let me
know if this helps.

mrbuzz You did it!!!!!!!!!!!

That was it. There was my name and the server name, thus causing the double
email.

Submit that as the answer and you will get your $2 and a 5-star rating!!!

Hi pendleton-ga!

Terrific! I'm glad I was able to help you out. I've actually had
this problem quite recently myself so the solution was still fresh in
my head.

Anyway, here is the solution again:

In Outlook, under Tools menu, click on Accounts. Go through each
account to ensure that the account you're checking only appears once.
They may not have the same name but could contain the same login info.

Since Outlook checks multiple accounts simultaneously, you would
connect to the mail server twice at the same time. Each mail check
'instance' would get a response from the mail server that there is a
new message. It will now send a request to begin downloading the
message and THEN send a request to delete it. Since both instances
would have already retrieved the message before the delete request is
sent, neither instance would've realized that the other instance also
downloaded the same message. Hence, you get the mail twice.

This is probably something Outlook should check for and warn. Oh
well.

Take care,

I posted a rather similar question some time ago - see ID 63412. That
was not answered, so I suspect this isn't an easy one.
