I am looking for where a particular vase from "The Hours" was
purchased or where I can purchase one like it. The vendor should have
a picture of the vase so I can confirm that it is in fact identical.

In Richard Brown's (Ed Harris) apartment in "The Hours" there are two
vases Clarissa (Meryl Streep) fills with flowers when she visits
Richard in the morning/in the first scene in Richard's apartment. The
first one is a pottery vase I am not concerned with. It is the second
vase that I have been looking for: a simple, transparent, large glass
vase. The vase is cylindrical, tapering at the base with a wider
mouth. She first fills it with water in Richard's kitchen, then puts
the rest of the flowers in the vase and places it on the windowsill
next to the only chair we see him sit in. Later in this scene he
almost knocks the vase over with his butt getting back into this
chair.

I believe this is a glass vase and not crystal. Were it crystal I
don't think it would have been in this particular character's
apartment, and I think it would have been much heavier for Clarissa to
pick up. But that is only speculation. The Set Decorators on "The
Hours" were Philippa Hart (U.K.), Harriet S. Zucker, Barbara Peterson
(U.S.). I haven't been able to find any contact information for them.

Other than that I cannot find anything like that vase. I really like
that vase.

I have emailed someone who might be able to provide some further
information on this matter. If I hear from them, I will post again.

Greetings again scazza. I contacted set designer Harriet Zucker who
indicated "I'm pretty sure Phillippa [Hart] bought the vase in England
somewhere." She also indicated that she thinks you could find a very
similar one in Manhattan's Flower District.

I don't know if you are near NYC, but the Flower District is on West
28th St. Look at the area between 7th and 8th avenues in the
map/chart below for some idea of what stores are on W 28th St.:

I'll see if I can uncover any specific information on where the vase
can be obtained from.

Thank you for contacting her. I do not live in NYC and so I was
looking for a place that either definitely had it and could send it to
me via phone or email. Or I was looking for an online vendor.

Thank you!

Hello again. I know this added info won't help since you are looking
for a web source for the vase, but I'd thought I'd include it here for
completeness:

"I think they should go to W. 28th st between 6th and 7th ave and
start walking. I would start at Jamali Hardware on north side of
street closer to 7th av) and if they don't have it, ask if they know
who might. Most of the places open very early and close pretty early
(by one or two p.m.) Jamali has more regular hours. Pottery Barn and
Crate and Barrel and Bloomingdales also have good vases. But I'd
start in the flower district."

A web source would be ideal, but even if Harriet Zucker knew where
Philippa Hart got the vase in England and could provide contact
information, I may be able to get it from there. Otherwise Phillipa
Hart herself maybe able to provide more information. Hope that helps
your research.
