I need good information with references on the subject of "Human
Resource Management Systems or Human Resource Information Systems"
The question or subject matter is "What are the issues and topics
behind building any Information System and specifically an HRMS/HRIS
in house by a companies programmers or buying an off the shelf peice
of software to do the job.
So basically i need information on the following:
1. What an Human Resource Management System is?
2. Issues behind building any peice of software in house?
3. Issues behind an HRMS in house?
4. Issues behind buying any peice of software of the shelf?
5. Issues behind buying HRMS software of the shelf?
6. How one could build a system in house including resource costs
staff time etc?
7. Industry views on the Issues of In House Building of software Vs Of
The shelf
This is quite a large research project but if all is good with brill
references and quite a lot of content i will pay more or simply
if you can send me in the right direction to look i will pay the
specified smaller amount of $10
amount of money. |

There's been a lot written about in-house vs. outside software
development; also about HRMS systems from Peoplesoft, Ceridian or
others.
Of your 7 questions, the most difficult to address is #6, as HRMS
systems can cover such a wide range of areas, including professional
service automation; benefits tracking; training and development;
succession planning; etc.
You'll probably want to list the functions being considered to get a
focused answer.

The research i need is for my thesis on the subject of inhouse Vs
build, i am trying to cover as many areas as possible to complete a
good analysis on the subject area. For #6 i need all main basic areas
covering if that is possible. Please note i need alot of good
information for this to be good for my thesis. Cheers

The category itself has a wide variance in description, from point
solutions (for things like payroll) to suites of packages that include
skills inventories, government regulation tracking, benefits,
succession planning, etc.
Without a better definition of specific functions, you're unlikely to
get a quality answer to these 7 questions. And, if we were we trying
to budget for software development my company would require a 100-page
"product requirements document" just to get to the point that a
development budget could be put together. Software today is so
modular, that it often licenses key functions rather than develop them
from scratch.
My suggestion would be to re-cast the question to deal with inside
development vs. off-the-shelf software, about which there is an
extensive literature. If you wish to deal with HRMS systems, it would
probably be best to describe functionality matching a commercially
available product.

Hi thanks for replying, basically i am doing a uni project on hrms, i
am developing a basic prototype and i need to write up around 5000
words on analysing the problems etc for building such a system. I need
to look into off the shelf software compared to in house build and the
issues behind each including change manegement etc etc. What would you
suggest. Cheers
