Hi jet19ski~

The climate of your new location can absolutely affect your hair! As I
recall from my childhood summers visiting Missouri, the days and
nights are quite humid...very different from California. And because
Missouri has harsher winters, you are probably spending far more time
inside with heat sources...again, quite different from California.
Heat and moisture absolutely affect your hair. (As women who have
straight hair know all too well, if you curl your hair, but end up in
a damp location, the curls will all fall out and your hair will look
miserably limp. This is just one example of how the weather affects
your hair.)

You might find this kid's science project interesting, and an
affirmation that your hunch was correct:

Another kids' science page reads: "As is true with human hair, wool is
also very responsive to the amount of moisture in the air. When the
air is dry, hair shrinks and curls up, whereas if the air is moist
(indicating rain), it swells and straightens out." ("Weather Lore,"
Clouds R Us.com, http://www.rcn27.dial.pipex.com/cloudsrus/lore.html )

For tips on how to deal with hair that's not cooperating due to the
weather, take a peak at Jose Eber's ideas:

Bear in mind that the water you use to wash your hair may also be to
blame. Does your water in Missouri have a different taste to it than
it did in California? Do soap bubbles rinse out more easily or with
more difficulty? If you answer yes to any of these questions, your
water may be making your hair unhappy, not the weather. It's not
practical for most people to use bottled water for washing their hair,
but you could definitely try a water filter. Changing shampoos might
also help.

Other factors that can affect your hair are diet and your overall
health.

You may be spending more time indoors now that you live in Missouri,
where the winter weather is typically colder than in California.
Indoor heating is very dry, and low humidity can have a disastrous
effect on hair.

You might want to try using extra conditioners after shampooing, and
purchasing a humidifier for your home.

Jet19ski~

I only just now saw your "comment." If you are moving into the same
area of California, yes, it should restore itself.
