The quote is something along the lines of "It is a rare occurance for
a person to exceed his goals". Basically saying that there is nothing
wrong with setting your goals high. I'm trying to find the exact
wording as well as who said it. |

Could this be the quote you're looking for"
"A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?"

That *is* quite similar (and is a good one which I had forgotten
about!), but isn't the one I'm trying to recall, unfortunately. To
the best of my memory, the one I'm looking for specifically mentions
the rarity of exceeding your goals... as in, "it is rare" or "it is an
uncommon thing" or something along those lines.

Aha! I found it!
"Seldom does an individual exceed his own expectations."
- unknown
So the question now is who said it...

severisth,
Alas, every source on the Internet claims it as Unknown, so it would
be quite a bit of detective work to determine this quote's true
origin.

Shoot. It's not worth it to make anyone go to those lengths to find
out.
Hailstorm, I'll accept your clarification as an answer. Thanks for
checking into it!
