The problem that you described is very common.
After researching for a solution of this problem, I find the same type
of causes and solutions for it.
It is not a problem of the QuickBooks Pro software, this problem
appears with many, as you can see taking a look to the following page
and the subsequent ones:

This behavior can occur if the MFC42.dll file is damaged or is the
incorrect version (an old version).
To resolve this issue, you must get a new copy of the MFC42.dll and
replace with this new copy the file in your HD.
You can get a copy of the latest version from here:
http://www.spedia.net/spediabar/install/mfc42.dll
Use the Search Files feature of Windows:
Start Menu --> Search Files or Folders --> Search for MFC42.dll in My
PC .
May be you have several copies of MFC42.dll in your PC.
Please replace ALL of the MFC42.dll files in your PC with the new one.
Restart your PC and then try to use the QuickBooks Pro software.
If it is still failing put a copy of the new MFC42.dll file in the
QuickBooks Pro installation folder.
Restart and retry.
If it still doesn´t work please uninstall the QuickBooks Pro from your
PC and repeat the previous procedure.
It must work.
