Question ID: 161998
I heard a song I really liked on a local college radio station, so I
called the DJ and asked about it. She said it was a group called
"Role Mottle", but that's all she knew. The song was a cover of Hall
& Oates "Stepping right out", and would probably fit into the
"Electronica" section at a record store. I'm hoping to find the album
and where I can buy it. It's possible the record label is called
"Centrall".

There does not appear to be any Hall & Oates song called "Stepping
Right Out", or any title like that. Are you sure about the title and
the artist? If we know the correct title and artist, we might be able
to find who covered the song.

Yes, it's entirely possible that I misunderstood the
Hall & Oates connection, but I'm quite certain that
the Title & Artist are correct.

Hi segwonk,

Could it be that the name of the tune is "Purfukt Roll Mottle"? That
tune is on the Seth Yacovone Band's "Dannemora" CD.

You can download "Purfukt Roll Mottle" here:
http://www.sethyac.com/mp3oftheweek.html

There are four CDs listed for sale here:
"Standing on the Sound" (newest)
"Dannemora" (2000)
"Yessir!" (1998)
"Bobfred's Bathtub Minstrel" (first)
http://www.sethyac.com/merch.html

The group is from Vermont.

I realize this is just a long shot, but if it happens to hit the mark,
let me know and I'll be happy to post it as an answer.

Cheers,
hummer

Hello Hummer --

In my own searches, I had come across the "Purfukt Roll Mottle" song,
and sadly, that's not it.
It's hard to imagine a band without a website, isn't it??

Hi segwonk,

What I can tell you is that you're correct: "Role Mottle" is the name
of the group. However, "Central" is apparently the name of their
label. See...

http://www.kcrw.com/pl/021028.html

...for a radio playlist from October `02 where Role Mottle's "Sunset"
was played. However, I could not find anything further about the band
or the label on the Web. One clue, a Web site selling a variety of
techno music lists two labels, a "Central Music" in Germany and a
""Central Music" in Austria, either of which could be the right label.
 The site is at...

http://www.fe.org/

and the site's owner can be emailed at...

fe@shore.net

Best of luck. If you find the song, let us know.

regards,

rico
