How do I get the mute button on my brand new Compaq Presario 2100us
running the pre-installed Windows XP Home Edition to work?

The mute *function* on the keyboard (Fn+Backspace) works just fine. So
do the little volume buttons on the side. It's just the little mute
button on the side which in non-functional.
