Question ID: 162032
I have a software product (DBMS) entering beta. We want to start
sending out
press releases. I need a thorough list of appropriate trade rags in
the United States, including contact information. I don't just want PC
World, I also want the freely distributed magazines like Information
Weekly. I don't want publications devoted specifically to other
products, like Smart Access. The final result should be an importable
mailing/emailing
list. I don't care if it's human readable, just post quote
comma-delimited text that I can paste and import. I'd like:

"MagazineName","ContactName","ContactAddress","City","State","ZIP","Email"

Leave blanks for unknown fields (because of the importing!) but I need
a mailing OR email address for each entry.

IMPORTANT: If you want to take this question on, do not lock it. Just
post an RFC with your GA handle. When I see a name I trust to do a
good job, I'll give a goahead to that Researcher. Answers without
Researcher preapproval will be rejected! Once approval is given, I
will state that the question is only to be answered by that
Researcher, so that they don't have to get up all night to reset the
lock. <grin>

Hello Hammer,

OK. I'll bite. Check me out and see if you trust me. But while
you're at it, let me ask a question. Have you checked into press
release distribution services who already have very targeted
distribution systems of precisely the type of info you are looking
for. When last I looked at their fees, they weren't exhorbitant. It
may be an easier option than compiling a list yourself. I'd be glad
to provide the appropriate contacts and information for these
services, if you're interested.

Hi! I would love to make the list for you. By the way how many
magazines should be in the list?

Hi hammer:

I'd be happy to help you out as well. However, I'll be out of town
until Monday night, so I wouldn't be able to statr until then.

Thanks.

I think I have a partial list running around my HD from a similar,
previous question. That would make a good jumping off point.

Let us know how many you'd consider for a "thorough" list, and we can
go from there!

Hi hammer,

I wouldn't mind tackling this too. As others have noted, let me know
how many magazines you're looking for.

Thanks,

To answer the folks who want to know "How many?"

I'm after at least 25 well-chosen contacts. The reason why the number
is small is because I want a well targeted list, rather than every
magazine and newsletter that has ever mentioned a computer. I'm after
magazines that have general computer focus, general (rather than a
specific product) database focus, and magazines that focus on small
businesses.

Dear hammer-ga

I found a number of services that will make your ready-made press
release for a fee (a cursory look indicated that this fee is usually
around $250), targeting all major newspaper, tv and radio stations and
also all subject or industry related magazines that you specify from
their list of 10,000 participating media services, magaines,
newspapers, etc. In addition, there are greater and lesser priced
services available, such as a press release restricted to a single
state/region, or options related to the number of submissions you
require. They can also write the press release for you if you need
that service, but the bigger savings appears to be with those who
already have one written and ready to go.

Please let me know if you are interested in these services as an
answer, or perhaps a seperate question and I will provide them to you.

Regards;
tutuzdad-ga
