Hello nikenn!

Yes, it's absolutely possible to append your old messages to your new
Outlook Express. Actually, it's very simple. Just follow these steps:

1) In Outlook Express, go to File - Import - Messages.
2) When asked to select a program to import from, choose OE5.
3) When asked to "Specify location", choose "Import from an OE5 store
directory".
4) Select the folder where you've stored your old message files.
5) Then select which folders you'd like to import (Inbox, Sent Items,
etc). The messages will be appended to the ones you already have in
Outlook Express in Win XP, without deleting anything.

In the future, I recommend you use a program called "Genie Backup
Manager". You can download it from

http://www.genie-soft.com

This program will allow you to backup and restore your Outlook
messages and address book in just a few clicks.

Hope this helps!

Hello elmarto,
I don't have OE5 on the "Select Program" list.I have OE4 and OE6.Which
one I should chose?I think I had OE5 with winME so OE5 should be the
right choice.
Why I don't have it?I have win xp pro, version 2002, build 2600 and
Internet Explorer SP1.I don't have win xp SP1.
Thanks
nikenn

Hi nikenn,

You're right, there is no OE5 option in the menu, not even in the SP1
(I have that one). My mistake there. In order to be completely sure
that you're chossing the right option, you can check the files that
are in the backup folder, and choose according to the following:

- If there are .mbx and .idx files (with the same name), you should
choose OE4
- If there are .dbx files, you should choose OE6

Outlook Express 5 and 6 use the same file format to store messages, so
you shouldn't have any problem choosing OE6 even if the original
version was OE5. This should work just fine. If you have any further
enquiry, please request another clarification.
