leep has kindly posted an mp3 to a song clip from the conan show. ive
listened to it a couple times and though the quality is not great, it
is good enough for me to hear the melody very very clearly and it
should be good enough for an id. leep even managed to merge the two
parts of the song (from when they were fading out to commercial to the
part when they were fading in back to the show) for the clip. thanks
a million, leep~! youve done all the hard work. now hopefully i can
find out the answer much more easily!

link: http://www.killyourcomputer.org/conan-clip.mp3

my question:

i would love to know the title and composer of the song and if there's
a performer or a group that is associated with a famous recording of
it, i would like to know that too.

thanks very much in advance!

Hello banchan-ga,

Great job by Leep posting that clip. This is one of my favorite
songs. It’s called “Grazing in the Grass” (or “Grazin’ in the Grass”).

According to All Music Guide
(http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&uid=11:06:43|PM&sql=H468865),
it was written by Elston & Hou.

This song has been performed by a number of people. A recent recording
(and one that I own) was done by Boney James & Rick Braun. You can
hear a clip of this version at Amazon.com at the following link:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004TCP4/ref=pd_sim_music_1/104-4843040-1178308?v=glance&s=music

This is a very good CD. It includes 2 versions of the song; one vocal
and one instrumental.

You can also purchase the Boney James and Rick Braun version as a
single at Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004Y6VM/qid=1045542097/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/104-4843040-1178308

However, I believe the song was originally made popular Hugh Masekela,
who recorded it in 1968. A clip of his version can be heard at the
following Amazon.com link:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005QGB1/qid=1045542323/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/104-4843040-1178308

Another very popular vocal version was performed in the sixties by a
group called the Friends of Distinction. I remember my parents
playing this version when I was a kid.

A clip of the Friends of Distinction version can be heard at
Amazon.com at the following link:
