Hello poohbear28:

Thanks for the interesting question.

I was able to find several companies that claim to be able to do the
"cyber-detective" thing and trace email messages/addresses. However,
keep in mind that there are many, many ways for a person with an email
address to disguise their identity - so no method (or company) will
ever be foolproof in *all* circumstances.

Here is the list I found. Since I do not have any personal experience
with any of these companies, they are listed in no particular order.

I'm just looking for an organization that will find out who owns an
AOL account and their true name.

Hello poohbear28:

Thanks for the clarification. In the future, please provide this type
of information up-front in your original question, so that we may help
you better.

Unfortunately, the information you seek is not readily available from
AOL. From their Privacy Policy:

Privacy Policy
URL: http://www.aol.com/info/privacy.html
Quote:
"Disclosure
We do not use or disclose information about your individual visits to
AOL Anywhere or information that you may give us on AOL Anywhere, such
as your name, address, email address or telephone number, to any
outside companies. AOL Anywhere may share such information in response
to legal process, such as a court order or subpoena, or in special
cases such as a physical threat to you or others. And, as we mention
above, we may share with our Web site partners aggregated statistical
"ratings" information about the use of AOL Anywhere."

If you feel that the person you are looking for has made a "physical
threat" to you, you may contact AOL at:

AOL.com Write to Us
URL: http://www.aol.com/info/feedback.html

However, if the above doesn't apply and you still wish to try to trace
the AOL user in question, the companies I provided before are probably
still your best bet.

I hope this helps.
