I need a minimum of two research (study) articles on sex-role identity
on children around the age of four years old. I am looking for this
article to to contain research with statistical information/results of
the "experiment".
To better understand what kind of research article I need to complete
the assigments... from these articles I will need to discuss the
purpose of the experiment, method in which this info was obtained with
statistical results. The more recent the articles the better.

Greetings Deovolente:

I have discovered an article "Born To Be A Tomboy?" that discusses
nature vs. nurture at http://www.tgcrossroads.org/news/?aid=526. It
is dated 11/29/2002.

From the article:
"When the children were three and a half years old, the researchers
had their mothers or primary caregivers complete a questionnaire to
measure how often a child played with gender-specific toys, games or
activities. Each question was scored on a five-point range of how
frequently a child engages in a particular gender-specific behavior,
from never to very often. Low scores on the questionnaire indicated
more typically feminine behavior, while higher scores represented more
male-oriented behavior. The researchers also had the children's
teachers complete the questionnaire for comparison.

"After controlling the data for such factors as maternal education,
the presence of older siblings, a male partner living with the mother
in the home, and how closely the parents followed traditional gender
roles, the researchers found an association between maternal levels of
testosterone and the way girls behaved at preschool age. The higher
the levels of testosterone in pregnancy, the more likely girls were to
score high on the questionnaire."

That article also referenced the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents
and Children. An introduction to the latter is located at

These were the only two examples I located that seemed to fit your
criteria. Should you need clarification, please request it. Also,
any other information you can cite would be of assistance to me.

Thanks for the response... Although, that wasn't quite what I was
looking for...
This example is not pertaining to the subject I am looking for, but it
is in the "research" format that I am inquiring about.
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5135a2.htm

I am looking for studies like my example that have been done according
to my original subject. Buzz words/phrases that might help...
identification through differentiation and affiliation, primary
identification, ego, id, phallic stage, social learning:
identification through observation and limitation...

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the extra buzz words and the example. Yesterday, I ran
across a lot of different types of articles citing studies but most
concerned seven year-old children and up. I'll begin researching
again pronto. :)
