I am looking for a painting that I saw in Sam's Club about four years
ago. I have been trying to find it since then, when I went to buy it,
it was gone. I do know that it was a print, so there must be a lot of
them out there. Here goes-
as much as I can remember, it was a painting of a woman looking out at
an ocean. Her face is NOT seen, only maybe a jawline. She is wearing
a loose sun dress type of thing, and I think it is blowing in the
wind. I'm pretty sure that she was holding or wearing a wide brimmed
sun hat (the brim goes all the way around the hat like a sombrero,
that kind of sun hat). I have been looking at ebay for a long time
trying to find a copy. Hopefully someone will know this painting and
provide a link to information on where to buy a copy.

It is often quite difficult to locate art from a written description.
I have collected a few images that could be your woman by the ocean.
If none of these is the print you need, it would be very helpful if
you can provide any more details that you remember, such as the style
of the artwork (was it impressionistic, or realistic?) and the
apparent medium (was the original piece likely to have been a
watercolor? an oil painting? pastel chalk? pen and ink?)

Here are ten possibilities for you to examine:

Thank you for the quick reply, Number 9 below is very much like the
one that I saw. I'm pretty sure that she was holding the hat, and she
was a little more prominent in the picture than that one. If I had to
guess, I would say that it was a watercolor, the colors didn't seem
strong enough to be oil. It was definitely in the style of number 9.

pentex,

I'm glad to get a feel for the style of art that you're looking for.
Items 8, 9, and 10 are all by artist David Schock. Unfortunately, I
haven't yet found any other artwork by Schock that would seem to meet
your criteria.

While I was searching for art depicting women by the sea, I came
across this site that might be useful to you:

http://www.beach-ocean.posters-online.biz/Shorelines/1.html

(I have already gone through the "Shorelines" section linked above,
but I may have missed something.)

Respree is another good place to browse. Here's a search that includes
570 prints in the category "Beaches":

I'm going to keep looking, but I will leave your question 'unlocked'
so that other researchers can assist you. If you remember any more
details, please tell us. Even the tiniest clue can sometimes lead to
an answer!

I'm sorry, I'm new at this, I posted a comment instead of a
clarification. Please read my comment below.

To clarify - You've copied movie_girl's description from the previous
question into your comment. So, you are saying that the painting that
movie_girl-ga refers to sounds like the same one you are looking for -
yes?

She was actually in possession of the painting, having bought it at AC
Moore "a few weeks ago." She was looking for title and artist. So it
seems that this painting is still available. What you might want to do
is start checking other large stores that sell framed prints: AC
Moore, Michaels, MJ Design, Walm-Mart, and the like. I suspect there
are still copies out there.

One of the difficulties in finding something like this is that it may
not be a copy of a famous print. There are many artists who do nothing
but paint for the mass-market trade; framed prints for retail, hotel
room and restaurant art, greeting and post cards, etc. These artists
are largely unknown and their work will not show up on websites that
specialized in art reproductions.

I've had one eye out for the painting you're talking about since
movie_girl posted her question. (Funny how some questions stick with
you!) So I'll keep looking.

Woman holding windblown hat looking out to sea ... looks like a pretty
common theme I'm afraid.

Maybe there's a lead here ...

I am thinking that this is the same picture that I am thinking about,
I could be just grasping at straws. Thank you to knowledge_seeker for
the lead

To clarify my description of the painting, the girl is completely
surrounded by the ocean. There is no view of the beach, only of the
water. The water is painted in pastel colors, and contains very light
shades of blue, white, green, yellow, and purple. The girl looks to
be a young lady, no older than 18. The girl's dress has a base of
purple and is highlighted with pink. Her hat is light brown and is
highlighted with very light, whited down brown. The hat bow is white
with purple and pink shadows. She is lifting her dress with her left
thumb and index finger, and her other three fingers are held of to the
side. The lifted dress hangs a couple of inches above her knees. She
is alone in the ocean, there is no other person or object in the
painting. The painting is either oils or acrylics, definitely not
watercolors. It doesn't look like a Monet, it could be French. Not
completely realistic, maybe impressionistic
