I want to determine the following for a particular city:
-How much bandwidth each company in the city uses OR
-How many IP addresses each company uses
I don't need all the companies, but I'd like to be able to query a
database or internet site to get a list of, say, the top 100 bandwidth
users or ip address owners in a city. |

For the price you have selected, I can provide you with a
comprehensive list of over 3,000 Internet service providers, including
prices and service available in the US and CANADA. This list includes
the area codes that the service extends to along with the phone number
of each company (and also a brief description of each company), but
you would have to make the contacts yourself. Otherwise, the
information you are asking for would require an enormous amount of
research that far exceeds the price you have selected, and probably
even exceeds the maximum price allowable.

I am not interested in ISPs; I am interested in companies' use of the
internet as far as bandwidth usage and/or IP addresses used. I
understand the actual research would be more expensive...I'm looking
for the resource, not the research.

Thank you for your clarification. The research to find the resource is
the kind of research I was referring to. If a source can be found,
well, the research is done isn't it?
Would you be willing to pay an access fee to the information if that
is the only source that can be found or are you only interested in
free sources (provided there are any)? At any rate, the cost in terms
of time, to find such a resource would require more time that what a
question of this price noramlly takes. I'd recommend you review the
pricing faq's in order to help attract the type of research your are
after.

I understand if it's too low for your services. I'll keep it open in
case someone knows of a way to query the whois database for ip numbers
within a city or something along those lines.

I've been working on your question. I found a tool that will list all
the IP addresses for a host that you specify if you are interested in
that. It does not allow you to type in a city and query all the IP's
there but it will return all IP addresses for each host that you ask
about. For example, if you already know specific host name that you
are curious about you can type it in and this tool will tell you the
series of numbers that the particular host uses. Maybe this will be a
good solution if nothing else can be found.

As long as the tool you are referring to isn't traceroute, that will
be an acceptable answer. Thanks
