How much money does the average small business (<50 employees) spend
on creating a web site?  How much money do they spend each year on
maintaining their web site and what is the breakdown (ie. hosting -
$500/year, web page design - $700/year, etc.)?  Please site the
references used to calculate the costs.

No, I'm really looking for some research where people have talked with
small businesses to get the cost details from them.  The sample costs
from vendor websites is more marketing material than actual cost of
having and maintaining a website.  Thanks though.

what's the purpose of the site? just to give information about the
company, or you also want something like web-shop, or processing of
orders ?

I'm trying to get an understanding of much small businesses are
spending on their web sites.  I think most of the web sites are either
brochure websites or ecommerce web sites.  The average small business
is probably mainly a brochure website with potentially a few items for
sale.
