Dear ducksville-ga;
Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.
I searched the database USS Houston (CA-30) Crew List - 1 Mar 1942
http://www.wbuzz.com/usshouston/crew.asp
RM2C, MARLYE LEROY DRAKE, USN, (and the only Drake indicated in the
database as being aboard the ship) was indeed a crewmember of the USS
Houston. I am sorry to report that he was killed in action, March 1,
1942, and was subsequently buried at sea. His final resting place was
recorded as 106 degrees 7' 55" East x 05 degrees 48' 45" South in the
company of his lost crewmates.
You can read more about the USS Houston, her heroic crew and what
transpired on March 1, 1942, and beyond (with regard to the 371
surviving crewmembers taken prisoner and forced into slave labor by
the Japanese and working on the infamous bridge on the River Kwai):

I hope you find that that my research exceeds your expectations. If
you have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. I welcome your rating and your
final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the
near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.
Best regards;
Tutuzdad-ga
