I am looking for statistics on the percentage of non-hightech
businesses in terms of success/failure with a 5 year time window of
launch.

I'm thinking of new business starts that are a new offer, started by
individuals as opposed to corporations.  "Success" is met if: break
even or better, if that can be ascertained, or, if not, then the fact
that they are still in business will suffice.

Please provide sources.

The feds used to keep data on the number of new business starts and
failures; they stopped doing so in 1997.  The data doesn't quite get
to your question, but it may be the only thing out there.  You can see
