I am committed to give a talk soon,to a highly professional audiance, about the main innovations that happened in Radar Technology since the 2nd world war. I need the information to be as specific as possible, and to include both Military and Commercial types of Radars. I am looking into progress made ONLY in the last 20 to 25 years. (I have enough material on the former years) I am interested with SYSTEM's ideas (e.g., new types of Antennas, impact of digital computers), and their impact on today's capabilities that were achieved due to smart ideas in signal processing (e.g., Kalman Filter), AND/OR new hardware (e.g., smart antennas, phased arrays). I am NOT interested with improvements that did not change the way the radar works, at the SYSTEM level. Summary ======= 1. I need answers that will list the main innovations characterized above, along with a short explanation on each, and its impact. 2. I need pointers, preferably web sites, where I can get more information. 3. I need the answer by Monday, February, 24, 2003 5 pm. |

Hi! Just a few notes. 1980s - Rasterscan 1990s - radar images or tracks with electronic charts |

Hi easterangel, Thanks for your quick response. It wasn't exactly the kind of response I am looking for. I am looking for new IDEAS. Examples: Monopulse radar, Matched filter, the concept of waveform design. In short: New elements in Radar theory and/or implementation(s), that brought along an important change with the way people design/analyze radar systems. RasterScan can still be included if you think it does improve the radar detection capability, by mechanizing the monitoring of thye radar disply. Do you know whether detection is improved? in what sense? Can this improvement be quantified? thanks again, systemguy |

Hi systemsguy-ga! I do not know much about this topic and I feel I found very little to post as answer so I just listed it at the comment section so you wouldn't get charged. Furthermore this might help other researchers get started. I will leave this open so others might take a crack at it. Thanks. |
