WHEN ON A TRIP TO CHICAGO, WE ATE IN THE SUBURBS AND I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE. I BELEIVE IT WAS THE SUNRISE RESTAURANT, WITH A SPECIAL STEAK CALLED A SKIRT STEAK. THERE WAS THE INTERSTATE, A MOTEL I STAYED AT NEXT TO THE INTERSTATE AND THEN THIS RESTAURANT SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET ACROSS FROM THE MOTEL. THEY WERE GREEK OWNERS, I GOT TO MEET HIM, THE FATHER. THIS WAS ABOUT 8 TO 10 YEARS AGO. CAN YOU HELP ME? | |

Hi there! The restaurant you are looking for is definitely the Sunrise Restaurant and Pancake House. It is located at 905 E Rand Rd., in Mount Prospect, IL. The phone number is (847) 253-5530. After you clarified some of the surrounding towns, I mapped their locations using mapquest ( http://www.mapquest.com ). This must be the correct restaurant because a) mount prospect was within only a few miles of all of the towns you noted and b) it is the only restaurant listed under Sunrise Restaurant by two Chicago dining guides: http://www.city-life.com : http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:OKd_aKUpnw8C:www.city-life.com/cgi-bin/citylife/citylife.cgi/chicago/listname.html%3F%26category%3DRestaurants%26letter%3DS+%22sunrise+restaurant+%26+pancake+house%22&hl=en&ie=UTF8 and http://metromix.com : http://metromix.com/top/1,1419,M-Metromix-Dining-!PlaceDetail-9488,00.html [Please note that the first link is pointing to a Google cache of the city-life.com listing. You are unable to go to the original webpage because it appears they have reorganized the site.] In case you plan on going back to the area to dine, more information about restaurants in the Chicago area can be found at: The Restaurant and Dining Guide To Chicago http://chicago.citysearch.com/section/restaurants/ Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureaus restaurant listing http://www.chicago.il.org/DINE.HTM Search terms used: Chicago "sunrise restaurant" ://www.google.com/search?q=chicago+%22sunrise+restaurant%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&sa=n&oq=Chicago+%22sunrise+restaraunt%22 "sunrise restaurant & pancake house" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=%22sunrise+restaurant+%26+pancake+house%22 Chicago restaurants ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&q=Chicago+restaurants Thanks for using Google Answers! I've eaten at that Sunrise Pancake House, and it's nowhere near an interstate (one of the Asker's criteria). Part of the problem is that Chicago is full of greek-run diners and pancake houses, and I bet a lot of them are named "sunrise" or some derivative. Having the interstate or hotel name would help a great deal. |

You can't assume Metromix (a entertainment and leisure guide owned and operated by Ticketmaster and the Chicago Tribune) will have listings for every single restaurant and diner in Chicago. Most of the little greek coffee shops in this town operate way underneath everyone's radar, and would hardly go to any effort to be listed in a web guide besides that. I'll reiterate, Andrewxmp. Mount Prospect is NOT NEAR ANY INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. My apologies, hiyafob, for being let down by a fellow Researcher. I'd argue that a fundamental flaw of Google Answers is that you cannot claim any priority on an answer because of a specific expertise you have in a given subject. It's certainly democratic to let anyone that can fire up a browser answer any given question, but it's certainly not in the best interests of the person paying money to get a truly enlightened answers. |

Hiyafob212 and Koz, I'm sorry for the delay (as I was out of town for two days), confusion, and possible error in my answer, and will be back with a clarification very soon. |

Hiyafob, I'm sorry if the answer I gave was not the one you are loking for. However, I asked the google answers program management about this and, after looking over the question, the research I did, and the answer I gave, they felt I answered in an appropriate manner. I will, however, probably use more discresion when selecting questions to answer next time. I'm sorry for any problems this might have caused you. |

THIS IS NOT THE ONE IT WANT. THEY SERVED SKIRT STEAKS. AND THE ONE I WANT STARTS WITH THE HIGHWAY, THE MOTEL AND THE RESTAURANT. ALL IN EYE SIGHT OF ONE ANOTHER. |

Hi there, I'm from the area you're talking about, and I've done my best to figure out the answer for you. Might it be the Sunrise Family Restaurant on State Route 251 in Rochelle, IL? Rochelle is not all that close to the towns you mentioned, but it's also not that far away. Rochelle is located along I-39 and I-88, a bit west of DeKalb, so it fits the "along the highway" requirement you had. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a hotel within eyesight of this restaurant. Check here for a list of motels in Rochelle: http://www.ilohwy.com/r/rochelle.htm Check here for address and phone number of the Sunrise Family Restaurant in Rochelle: http://rochelleil.areaguides.net/restaurants.html?city=Rochelle&ST=IL&heading_id=195251&heading=&business=&alpha=S I was hoping to find a menu online, but I've exhausted my usual ways of finding that. Hopefully, a quick call to the restaurant can determine whether it's the one you're looking for. I hope this helps. :) ferrbie |
