I receive daily 10-20 popups or popins about winning a free trip to
Orlando.

How do I stop them forever? I have been using McAfee Firewall for
almost a month. These people have url (?) 200.64.38.13 and etc also
200.64.39.132 and etc. I once tried blocking all 200.64.38. 1-155 and
blocked my own server!!

I did a search the other day and the system says they originate in
Guatemala. My popups now come in Spanish.

Are you interested in a program you can download that will prevent
this from happening (and any others that might occur)?

Hmm, re-examining our question. Are these unsolicited EMAILS you are
getting or internet popups? If they are popups my comment may help. If
it's spam...well, that's another story.

These may be "Messenger Spam" which might hit your computer regardless
of which application you are using. This might be the case if you are
using Windows XP or Windows 2000.

Can you describe what the pop-ups look like (do they look like
Internet Explorer browser windows, or something else?) Also, please
indicate which operating system you are using.

You are a victim of Spyware! Some program you installed at some point
in time secretly installed this software on your machine which is
responsible for these Popups. Spyware is pretty difficult to get rid
of without assistance. There are two FREE sofware packages which I
use on my computers which do an excellent job of eliminating the
problem. I recommend either one. SpyBot is more cutting edge, and
Ad-Aware is a more established product. Here are the links:

Spybot: Search and Destroy http://spybot.eon.net.au/
Ad-aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

These two packages both work the same way. They search your entire
system for offending Spyware. A classic example is Gator. They then
offer you the option of removing them. Be forewarned that the
programs you downloaded that installed the spyware may no longer work.
File sharing programs are notorious for installing spyware. Kazaa
for example. If you want to continue using these programs, then you
may have to live with the spyware. Both Spybot and Ad-aware will
backup any changes they make, so you can alwyas go back and restore
things how they were if your programs don't work correctly.

I'm willing to guarantee that either of these packages will solve your
problem once and for all.

Tell your browser to refuse pop-up windows? In Opera it's File | Quick
Preferences, or F12.

tutuzdad--- I am tired of buying. Isnīt there any easier way? These
popups or whatever they are come when I am working in Outlook, not on
the Internet.

Owain--- Do I have to buy something more?

Why don't my other PC's get these buggers?'

I feel your pain. I don't like to buy either.

Try POW from ANALOG-X. This one is free. I've used it every day for
over a year now and I never see any popups anymore.

Good luck;

u should run download ad-aware (
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/ )and run it on ur system .
the number of poups u are getting suggests that there is some ad
program installed on ur system which is sending these windows. (that
is IF those windwos are internet explorer windows)
the other possibility is that they are "Messanger" windows. something
like a windwos message for which follow the following
linkshttp://www.dvdsqueeze.com/windowsmessage.htm
also block the following ports 135, 137, 138. and 139 . IF u are
useing a network the ports should be blocked on the router. but since
u are recieveing these i presume u are not.

I am using professional 2000, whereas my other pC's have Windows 98.

What these "popups" look like is just a varying size window, no pics,
just text.
I think it says "Messenger service" at the top. Like I said, they just
"pop up".

I click the "X" or sometimes the "OK" button and they are gone.

They do not come as emails.

Someone said it may be for using professional Windows 2000. I think we
are finding the "hole in the wall".

Pendleton ~

It sounds like an exploit of your system's messenger service ... which
is a known issue with both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Here's some information from Microsoft's Knowledge Base on the
subject:

 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330904

and see also: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp

In addition you can install an additional firewall, Zone Alarm by Zone
Labs, which does address this particular vulnerability. They have a
for-pay firewall, but a free firewall which works, too, for the
messenger vulnerability.

The free download can be found here:

Good luck!

New detail---------

These popups show up when I am MS Works!!! Can you believe it?!?

Yes, I am connected to Outlook, but at the moment it occurred I had not
opened (well I did open and then close) MS Explorer.

Any more ideas? Is my computer itself making them?

I fixed it myself.

My son wrote me and sent this site. I downloaded free and now am free
of those pests.

The Popups appear due to the messenger service in windowsXP/2000 (not
related to Windows/MSN messenger)

To Stop the popups, go:

Control Panel > Services: and find the service "messenger".

Stop this service, and stop the popups.

(Make sure none of your other programs rely on this service, as they
may fail to work aswell)

Hope that helps
