Jeanwil, Thank you, but can you confine search to 'small group and over 50's.

I WAS VERY INTERESTED IN THE QUESTION, BUT AM NOT SURE IF THE QUESTION
WAS FROM AUSTRALIA OR OVERSEAS E.G. U.S.A. OR ELSEWHERE. AS A
RESIDENT OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA, IT SEEMS AS IF LITTLE IMPORTANCE IS
GIVEN TO WARNING TOURISTS AS TO THE DANGER OF SALTWATER CROCODILES IN
THE NORTHWEST OF MY STATE. A FEW YEARS AGO A TOURIST BY THE NAME OF
GINGER MEADOWS WAS "TAKEN" BY A BIG SALTY IN WHAT SEEMED LIKE A NICE
PLACE TO SWIM. THERE HAS BEEN A TOTAL BAN ON ANY CULLING OF THESE
DANGEROUS ANIMALS SINCE 1975 AND THEY HAVE NOT STOPPED BREEDING. IN
FACT THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM NOW AND EVERY YEAR GROWING LARGER AND
SPREADING FURTHER SOUTH, EVEN SWIMMING VIA THE OCEAN TO AS FAR SOUTH
AS PORT HEDLAND. SOME TOUR OPERATORS ARE VIRTUALLY TRAINING THEM TO
LEAP FROM THE WATER TO GRAB BAITS FOR ENTERTAINMENT. THESE OPERATORS
ARE NEGATING THE ANIMALS FEAR OF MAN AND MAKING THEM EVEN MORE
DANGEROUS. THESE ANIMALS NEVER STOP GROWING AND IF THEIR NATURAL FOOD
SOURCE IS EVER DEPLETED, WATCH OUT. THEY ARE EVEN MORE DANGEROUS THAN
WHITE POINTER SHARKS, AS THEY HAVE NO TROUBLE LEAVING THE WATER TO GET
YOU. THERE ARE TWO "SALTIES" IN THE DARWIN MUSEUM. ONER IS STUFFED AT
TWENTY FOUR FEET, AND THE OTHER IS A SKELETON AT THIRTY FEET. BE EXTRA
CAUTIOUS. AND HAPPY TOURING.

Mike 32, please don't take the comment from pugwashjw too seriously,
he/she is grossly overstating the issue. Yes there have been a few
cases of tourists being taken by crocodiles in Australia over the
years but they are without fail tourists who choose to ignore
blatantly clear warning signs around watering holes, e.g. "THIS AREA
INHABITED BY CROCODILES, SWIM AT YOUR OWN RISK".

Use a little common sense and you will have the trip of a lifetime in
a beautiful part of the world.
Regards
PJ

FWIW
a bit off topic maybe, but if you're really into rough and ready
hiking tours, and are reasonably fit with a good attitude (ie don't
mind not seeing any signs of civilisation - not even tracks - for days
or weeks) you might want to check out www.bushwalkingholidays.com.au
They're not specifically for over 50s, but they do apparently get
quite a few middle aged people (I'm not sure of the numbers, but it
seems like a considerable percentage). As with all small, eco-tourism
tours, it's pot luck who the other clients are, ie you might get
lumped in with a bunch of teenagers, but some of their tours have a
lot of middle aged people. If you're into that type of holiday,
they're probably the only supplier (certainly the only one who does
that type of bushwalking in kakadu).
They're based in Darwin, but do do a number of hikes in NW W.A. I
think they're normally short, 2 - 4 week, hikes.

I guess you already noticed, but just a comment on jeanwil's answer.
Some of the links aren't working for me at the moment, so I can't
comment on them all, but just a few comments:
* The "traveldownunder" one refers to Northwest TASMANIA. As the map
on the webpage shows, this is in fact an island off the extreme
SOUTHEAST.
* Likewise, Mildura is in Northwest VICTORIA, which is Austrlia's most
SOUTHEAST mainland state (ie second-most SE, after Tasmania)
* Arnhem land isn't technically NorthWest, but it is a great place to
go (it's hard for visitors to get in, as it is controlled by the
traditional owners).
