Question ID: 165751
In regard to the Emerson Switchboard phone line sharing system:
Is this a good way to hook up to the internet?

A friend asked me this question, and I know nothing about this
equipment.
If this is a quality hookup, it sounds to good to be true.

I found a lot of information with the Google search engine, but I
would like to hear from someone who has had personal experience.

In my original question I asked for the researcher to have had
personal experience with the Emerson Switchboard phone line.

I want to change this to :
The researcher, or anyone known to the researcher, that has had
experience with the Emersion Switchboard phone line.

I understand you are interested in Emerson Switchboard, but if I may
ask, is your ultimate goal to find the most efficient means of sharing
an internet connection between two computers, using the same phone
line and this switchboard?

Your statement "phone line sharing system" got me wondering.

This is a reply to a request for clarification by tutuzdad.ga.

Hello: tutuzdad:
I posted this question for a friend.
My friend has never been on the internet, and wants to start with the
least amount of original investment as possible.
One way to start may be with the “Emerson Switchboard phone line”
equipment.
If the advertisement is to be believed, the Emerson Switchboard would
be a low cost way to start. The phrase “Emerson Switchboard phone
line” is direct from the advertisements on the internet. If you
search on Google, you will find many sites that use this phrase.

The goal is to get on the internet with only one phone line.
Please ask if you have any more questions.

clicker5,

Thank you very much for accepting my comment. I am reposting the
comment as an official answer, as you've requested.

A friend of mine used the Emerson Switchboard briefly.

It is basically just an automatic call waiting system that enables you
to speak (for only about 30 seconds) to a voice caller while you are
connected to the Internet. Note that you must pay for the call waiting
option through your local phone company in order for the Emerson
Switchboard to work.

My friend was not satisfied with this product, so she bought a second
phone line.

(My search strategy consisted in emailing my friend, who had mentioned
her encounter with the Emerson Switchboard several months ago.)

-------------------------------------

There are many posts about the Emerson Switchboard on various
newsgroups. You may want to browse through these for an overview of
opinions (along with a fair amount of spam):
