I am buying a product directly from a company in Taiwan, having it
shipped to me in the US, then turning around and selling it directly
to retailers and businesses. I have never imported a product nor have
I been in the wholesale distribution business so I am truly
inexperienced. With that diclaimer in mind my questions is as follows.
Besides paying for the product and the shipping what other cost do I
need to consider? To clarify, I mean cost in soft and hard terms. Also
to clarify I am not looking for generic import/export business
information but rather specific information about my situation.
Another clarification is the scope of this question deals with getting
the product from the manufacturer to my warehouse but not beyond that.
With regard to specific hard cost (tariffs taxes, etc) I would
appreciate information regarding resources for further research. Thank
you.

Presently I am doing the same thing, and my
advice would be to go out and buy a book
to detail what and how things should happen,
and also get a Customs Broker.
Some potetial costs (would need to know
product also)
Export licenses
Export taxes
Logistics/shipping
Duty
Quota license fees, if applicable
Customs broker fees
Customs fees outside of duties

Get professional help on dealing with
Customs, shouldn't cost a ton and
will be worth it. I am doing most of mine
and am a novice, and it is very complicated.
Good luck, and check out the HTS to determine
what tarriff will be applied to your product, and
also set-up a meeting with a local Customs
person if you have one near you.
